April 17th, week zero, seeds just planted. Lettuce apr16
April 23rd, week one, in each of the PIC containers I have one bud, in one of the B containers I have two buds while in the last B container there is nothing sprouted yet. Lettuce April 23rd
April 30th, three days ago the water was low in all of the plants so this was my opportunity to do the first fertlizer watering. I diluted by half the formula of balanced water soluable fertilizer and filled all of the containers. This photo was taken April 30th and is from my new basement grow-light station. I'm not sure why the first Lettuce B's reservoir is green, but for now I am leaving it that way. lettuce growth update
May 13th, week 4, three out of four of the lettuces are doing okay, it is hard to know if they should be taller than this by now, but they are at least healthy looking. The last of the four, the second B still has nothing, so I won't be photographing that one any longer. lettuce May 13th
May 28th, Week 6, I have closed down the basement grow-light station because most of these plants are mature enough to get them outside given our current weather conditions. The lettuce is still quite small, however, so I have group them all into an interim container with the tomatoes I have also started. The red circle shows which are the lettuce plants. lettuce growth update may 28
June 3rd, week 7, they have started getting larger again after quite a few weeks of being the same size, this hopefully is a sign of good things to come. lettuce june 3rd
June 11, week 8, they look good enough now that I'll build a smaller SWC for the two of them and get them planted on their own hopefully in the next few days. lettuce june 11
June 26th, week 10, I mentioned previously that I need to repot the lettuce, I still haven't! I will really try to get it done soon. The tomatoes are overcrowding the two lettuces now. lettuce june 26th
July 2, week 11, I managed to repot the lettuce into this same container, not a SWC but with holes in the bottom to allow drainage just a couple of days after the June 26th entry. The lettuce is doing well, I haven't decided if I will harvest by leaf or by chopping the entire plant a bit above the surface. lettuce july 2
July 21st, week 14, the plants are ready to lose their outer leaves, but since we are part of a CSA farm and receive one or two heads of lettuce each week, I am thinking of chopping them at the base and adding the whole head to our nightly salad. This may stop the growth altogether, or they will restart on their own, we shall see. lettuce july 21
